Rider Insight: Tahnée Seagrave

Tahnée Seagrave became one of downhill’s most exciting talents back in 2013. Not only did she win the Junior World Champs, but she also started making waves in the elite category, finishing the season in the top 10 at just 18 years old. She stepped up to the elite ranks in 2014, securing a very respectable fifth place overall in the World Cup and third at the World Championships in Norway.

Despite having to deal with an injury during training earlier in 2020, Tahnée made her race return at the Downhill World Championships in Leogang, Austria and even secured a podium finish at the final rounds of the Downhill World Cup in Lousa.

We took some time out with Tahnée to ask her a few questions about her helmets to date and getting her first set of wings after becoming an official Red Bull athlete!

What was the first MTB helmet you ever had?

I can’t remember which brand, but I remember my Dad spray painting them for me and Kaos haha. He’s so creative, and that’s where my creativity and love for customised parts/kit rooted from. It’s so cool to have an input with the brands I work with today!

What was it like to get your first Red Bull helmet?

I was honestly so shocked, Red Bull had already been supporting me since my first year junior but with the UK already having a female dominant force in DH I had just kind of accepted that I’d never be a branded athlete. It was just a normal yearly meeting with my athlete manager when he told me. I didn’t believe him, I thought he was messing with me!

Which helmet design has been your favourite to date?

I can’t possibly choose! A few years ago we did an outrageously sparkly helmet haha. Last years lightning bolts were pretty cool too! My diamond tiara is my signature piece and I love it! It takes the guys so long to place them individually and they probably hate me for it so I can’t say how much I appreciate it! Haha

What would your dream helmet design be?

I’m pretty lucky that I just get to send my ideas over to Image Design Custom and they make it work for me! A Redbull painted helmet itself is the dream!

Will we see his & her’s Red Bull design for you and Kade? ;)

Haha!!! Not sure we see eye to eye on the sparkles and tiara’s!!

What can we expect from you and the team for the 2021 season?

It’s still pretty unknown to us all but we are hoping to get back out racing. I miss it so much! Before Covid happened, I spent 2 seasons injured after having a really good stint. But first just hoping that we all get a bit more normality back!

You can catch Tahnée at the opening round of the 2021 UCI Downhill World Cup that kicks off in Maribor, Slovenia at the end of April.
